WELCOME TO OUR PRACTICE

Since 1995, our practice has been dedicated to the surgical treatment of obesity. We have not only been a part of the evolution and the extraordinary growth of obesity surgery, but we have also seen the great results in our patients. Dr. Carlos Ferrari is a board certified general surgeon and a fellow of the American Society for Metabolic and Bariatric Surgery (ASMBS). He has performed over 5,000 bariatric surgeries since 1995.

Advances in technology and minimally invasive techniques have made these surgeries extremely safe and well tolerated, making these metabolic surgeries the best weapons we have in the fight against obesity.

If you are considering surgery, you most likely have tried multiple diets and know that diets do not work. Yes, exercise and behavior modification are an important part of a weight loss program but are ineffective when it comes to the cure of obesity. For severe obesity (BMI>35) with associated comorbidities, surgery, along with lifestyle changes, is the most effective long term treatment of obesity. Surgery provides caloric and volume restriction, but unlike diets, also produces metabolic changes in the process and utilization of calories.

We offer comprehensive and personalized attention, which provide our patients with unparalleled care. We do not believe in a one-size-fits-all principle. We take into consideration each patient’s specific clinical situation and offer different procedures to tailor to each patient. As a result, the outcomes are better, and complication and mortality rates are well below the national average. All surgeries are done laparoscopically, using minimally invasive technology, and are performed only in Center of Excellence designated hospitals.

Biography

Dr. Ferrari received his medical degree from the Universidad Nacional de Cordoba in Cordoba, Argentina. In 1975, he came to the United States to complete his surgical training and residency in general surgery. He moved to Houston in 1983, and one year later, in 1984, he went into private practice.

Dr. Ferrari is certified by the American Board of Surgery and is a Fellow of the American Society for Metabolic and Bariatric Surgery (ASMBS). He has extensive experience in both laparoscopic and bariatric (obesity) surgery. He has been performing laparoscopic surgery since 1987 and bariatric surgery since 1995 and has performed over 2,000 laparoscopic bariatric cases. In addition, he has educated and trained several of the bariatric surgeons in the Houston area.

Dr. Ferrari’s practice is dedicated to the surgical treatment of obesity, and he is committed to health of his patients. His practice philosophy is very simple: to provide individualized, quality care to each and every patient. He prefers to keep his patient load at a level which will allow him the time to provide detailed, personalized care. He offers several procedures such as laparoscopic Roux-en-Y gastric bypass, laparoscopic adjustable band (LAP-BAND), gastric sleeve, Duodenal Switch and revisions of previous weight loss surgeries for which he has experience in and is of special interest to Dr. Ferrari. Each patient has different needs, concerns, and expectations, and Dr. Ferrari takes all these factors into consideration when deciding which procedure is best for the patient. He strongly believes that a good relationship between a doctor and his patients is essential for quality care, and he knows that the doctor and patient must work together in order for the patient to achieve the best possible results. The hospitals at which Dr. Ferrari performs his surgeries have well-established bariatric programs and have been named Bariatric Surgery Center of Excellence by the ASBS.
